Discussing the Development of Boy Band History in Western Countries free essay sample
With the interest of listen to the music of boy bands. I stared to think of how dose this kind of singing group form. Also, because not only boy bands, there are lots of singing groups like choirs, girls groups, and operatic groups etc. I always question how do they become popular in the worldwide music industry. In this paper, I will discus the development of boy band history in western countries. Although the term ââ¬ËBoy Bandââ¬â¢ was yet to be established before the late 1980s in the western world, various kinds of male singing groups had existed. They appeared in the form of male choir, male a cappella groups and male vocal groups etc. It is believed that ââ¬ËBoy Bandââ¬â¢ was stem from these kinds of male performing groups. The word boy band is now widely defined as the male vocal groups, which formed by two or more idols with age below 30. They usually donââ¬â¢t play music instruments neither in the song recording nor the performing session. They sing RB, pop and soul music etc. Boy band grew in popularity to their peak between the 1940s and 2000s with groups. That is the period from The Beatles to Westlife. [1] First of all, to discus the development of male idol groups in the 2000s century. Although the word ââ¬Ëboy bandââ¬â¢ in the 1980s had yet to be established, some male singing groups looked like boy bands were already existed. Various outstanding male idol groups like The Osmonds(1958), The Beatles (1960), The beach Boys(1961), The Jackson 5(1964), The Monkees(1966), and The rolling stones etc. were the examples of famous male idol groups in the western world. For instant, The Jackson 5, later known The Jacksons which formed by the back brothers was a very famous American pop male idol group with 5 members included Jackie Jackson, Tito Jackson, Jermaine Jackson, Marlon Jackson and Michael Jackson. The Jacksons had sold over 100 million albums worldwide which obtained a huge commercial success among the western music industry. The aspect of place of origin, music style, and target marketplace of The Jacksons can be discussed to examine its success. First, by the turn of the twentieth century, New York City had become the artistic and cultural center of America. Under the rise of American popular styles in the western countries during the World War I, the American popular music style had been disseminated throughout the west. 2] As a result, the form of male idol group had been introduced to the western world and had become popular very soon. The Jacksons, which was popularized in the Americans, could then become the international male idol group since the above phenomenon. Second, Like other pop male idol groups from the America, The Jacksons sang RB, jazz, rock ââ¬Ënââ¬â¢ roll, soul, pop, and disco music. The most memorable songs of The Jacksons would be ââ¬ËI Want Yo u Backââ¬â¢ which is a pop song, ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢ll Be Thereââ¬â¢ which is the soul song, and ââ¬ËDancing Machineââ¬â¢ which is the fix of pop and RB song. The Jacksons followed the trend of the American popular music style (sang soul, pop, RB etc. ) so that their songs hit many number ones in the America music industry. Third, The Jacksons targeted at all audience, especially the teenage girls, witnessing the group image and the content of the songs. When concerning the group image of The Jacksons, since it was composed by The Jacksons, they also knew as the family band at that period. They give a sense of harmony and happiness. This made it welcomed to the group of families. Moreover, when consider its content of songs, it was obvious that they were targeting at the young girls. For instance, the song ââ¬ËAll I Do Is Think Of Youââ¬â¢ was talked about a love story happened at school that a loved girl was thought about by a boy. Lyrics like ââ¬ËAll I do is think of you day and night, thats all I doââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËBaby I cant get you off my mindââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËHey, Im in love with youââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËOh, wont you please, please be mineââ¬â¢ etc. Doubtless, teenage girls made up the largest portions of the audience at all time, The Jacksons have become successful since they sang lots of love song to caught teenage girlsââ¬â¢ attentions. Secondly, to discus the development of boy bands in the 2000s. At 1980s, the word ââ¬ËBoy Bandââ¬â¢ was finial introduced to the western world. With the continue success of The Beatles, The Rolling Stone, The BackStreet Boy, boy bands or male idol groups had become very popular especially in the UK area. [3] At this period, folk music, country pop music, and operatic pop music were brought to the boy band history. Unlike the 1980s or before, most of the male singing group do not born for a specific music genre, but in the 2000s, some boy band were born to be a fix kind of music style, like South 65 and Marshall Dyllon were gave born to the country pop. Producers intended to bring the boy band sound to the country music scene. All songs sang by South 65 were the country pop music. For example, the song ââ¬ËThe Most Beautiful Girl (2001 version)ââ¬â¢ recorded in the album of Dream Large, was recomposed in the way of country-pop-feeling. Another country boy band was Marshall Dyllon. It was an American country music boy band formed in year 2000. Like South 65, producers create songs of country pop music for them. For example, its first single ââ¬ËLive It Upââ¬â¢ or the second single She Aint Gonna Cry were, again, country pop music. Moreover, there was boy band grouped for for the operatic pop music (that was the songs from classical music stylized as pop music) like II Divo, the Italian boy band formed in year 2004. Most of their songs were about operatic pop music. Since tones of music genre had been added to the boy band industry and more types or styles of boy bands were being introduced to the western music market, boy band had grown in popularity to their peak in the 2000s. Finally, to discus the development of boy bands in the 2010s. Although the western boy bands lose some popularity after the death of member in The Beatles, disband of Westlife, they are the essential element in todayââ¬â¢s music industry. [4] While some boy bands continue to create their new music style, they try to sing pop punk, post-grunge and power pop music etc. some boy bands decided to go back to the original, they walk back to the doo-wop music. Taking OverTones as an example, it is an English-Irish-Australian boy band grouped in London in year 2010. Members of the boy band included Timmy Matley, Mark Robert Franks, Lachlan Chapman, Mike Crawshaw, Darren Everest. The OverTones cares about its group image, they all look very gentleman, but with slightly different in personalities. Also they target at teenage girls and adults women since the sing love songs etc. With the mentioned characteristic, it can be told that they have no difference in packaging when compare with so early famous boy band. But in fact, they are going back to the music genre called doo-wop. Doo-wop music is a subgenre of RB music. It is a style of vocal-based rhythm and blues music that built in African American society in the mid 20th century. At that time, doo-wop music reached mainstream popularity in the New York City. Doo-wop music is built based on different part of vocal harmony, simple song content, nonsense syllables (like ââ¬ËGow gow hoo-ooââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËMull an a mound chicka lubba hubbaââ¬â¢) and a easy tempo in order to let the audience to get a quick idea of the melody of the song. [5] Examples of songs from Overtones are ââ¬ËGambling Manââ¬â¢. While listen to this song, it is obvious that it is built base on different vocal harmony with the leading vocal Timmy and the others singing the harmony throughout the songs. Also, the lyrics is simple, the whole chorus is repeating the ââ¬ËIve never been a gambling manââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËIve never had the winning handââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËBut for you Id lose it allââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËMy odds are stackedââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËBut for you Id lose it allââ¬â¢. Third, at the beginning of the song, Timmy sings ââ¬ËOh woa woa wo woa woaââ¬â¢ which are some nonsense syllables. Lastly, there are repetitions of a simple melodic line throughout the song and it is told to be the riff and there is a hook in the beginning of the song to make it easier to remember. To sum up, the music style of The Overtones looks like the male singing groups in the mid 20th century. For instance, it sounds very similar with the song ââ¬ËMy Girlââ¬â¢ from The Temptations (1965). So, there is an observed trend of going back to classic boy band style. Last but not least, there are some observed similarities and changes of boy band throughout all eras. First, RB, soul, pop, and disco are popular no matter what has happen in the surrounding environment, these kinds of music genre reach mainstream of the whole music industry at all time. [6] Boy bands from The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The Jacksons to OverTones, Westlife, and One Directions followed the trend and along these kinds of music genres. Moreover, they have different personalities among the band members so that to catch various audience or fansââ¬â¢ attentions. Furthermore, besides being a singer, many boy band attended TV program, being the host of some entertainment shows, being models of some brands in order to rise their popularity, so and so. The above characteristics are unchanged over the years. However, to indicate the significant changes in different eras in the boy band history, new music genre had been added, like the country pop, folk and operatic pop music. These kinds of music genre had grown in popularity in the 2000s. And in the recent years, some boy bands are going back to the doo-wop music. With years of success of boy band in the western country, it brings some influence in the Asian country. In todayââ¬â¢s Asian music industry, many music production companies introduce new boy bands to the public from time to time.

Microsoft-designed computer operating system, a program that controls the basic functions of personal computers. Windows started life as Microsofts take on a graphical user interface (GUI). Windows 3.0, Window 3.1, and Window 3.11 were the three earliest versions of Microsofts Windows operating system. Windows 95 is a major upgrade to Windows 3.1. This operating system is a true operating system and not an operating environment as were the 3.x version of Windows. Windows 95 does not require a separate version of DOS, although some DOS features are included for compatibility. One advantage of Windows 95 is its improved graphical user interface, which makes working with files and programs easier than earlier versions. Another advantage of Windows 95 is most programs run faster under it because it is written to take advantage of newer 32-bit processors and supports cooperative multitasking. The disadvantages of the Windows NT are it requires more disk space, memory, and the faster processors just for the tools for developing Internet web pages and operating system. UNIX, which is also a real operating system. More than one person can run multiple applications, making it a multi-user and multitasking operating system. With UNIX, each user logs in using a login name. Optionally, the user must also supply a password. The password ensures that the person logging on with the user login name is really who she claims to be. If the computer is attached to a network, it has several other identifying items, including, but not limited to, a domain name and an IP address. UNIX will run on just about every platform made. Linux is a full-fledged operating system. It provides full multitasking in a multi-user environment. It gives a high quality of software for a cost far lower than other commercial versions of Unix. Itââ¬â¢s not just about forwarding transcripts or entering a list of extracurricular activities- you have to craft something personal and compelling to show the admissions committee who you are beyond your resume. In this article, weââ¬â¢ll go over our 13 best tips for writing college essays. Weââ¬â¢ll give tips for every step of the process including planning, writing, and editing your essay, as well as some quick and easy tips to boost any essays you already have written! With these college essay tips, youââ¬â¢ll be that much closer to the best admissionsessay ever! 5Tips for College Essay Planning Doing a good job planning makes the college essay process that much easier. These five college essay tips will help you get started and pave the way for a great final product. #1: Make a Plan of Attack for Your Essays The first thing youââ¬â¢ll need to do is identify all the essays youââ¬â¢ll need to write and their deadlines. It may help you to make a spreadsheet with the essay guidelines for each school, the word count, the prompts, the due date, and any special instructions. This will help you figure out: How many essays youââ¬â¢ll need to write, and how long those essays need to be. Whetheryou can reuse any essays: In general, you can reuse essays for prompts that are about your life, broadly similar in theme, and have a similar word count. You probably canââ¬â¢t reuse essays that are very specific to the college, like ââ¬Å"Why This Collegeâ⬠essays. Which essay you should write first: Youââ¬â¢ll probably want to start first on the essay with the earliest application deadline. Alternatively, if you have plenty of time or the deadlines are close together, you could start with the longest essay (which will take the most time) or the essay that will be used for the most schools (like a Common Application essay). Do what you feel most comfortable with. With all this information gathered, youââ¬â¢ll be able to make a plan of attack for your essays and make sure nothing gets lost in the application shuffle. (In fact, I actually advise keeping track of all necessary components of your application in a spreadsheet for the same reason). #2: Start Early You want to start writing way before the deadline. If possible, give yourself at least two months, and maybe even more time if you can. This will make sure that you have enough time to adequately plan your essay, draft it, and edit it. And, of course, the more essays you have to write, the earlier you should start! Don't worry, you don't need to start this early. #3: Choose the Right Topic Choosing the right topic has two facets: first, choosing the right prompt (if thereââ¬â¢s a choice) and second, choosing the right topic to write about for that prompt. The Right Prompt If thereââ¬â¢s a choice of prompts, you may want to actually start by brainstorming the specific topic or thing in your life that you want to write about, and then reverse-engineer back to the most appropriate prompt. Most college essay prompts are pretty vague, so a broad range of topics and issues can be applied. You can also use prompts to help you brainstorm if youââ¬â¢re having a hard time figuring out what to write about. Think about the prompt that seems most appealing to you at first. What intrigues you about it? What do you think you could communicate about yourself through that question? Hereââ¬â¢s some tailored guidance on some of the most common college essay prompt types. And if youââ¬â¢re writing a Common Application essay, hereââ¬â¢s advice on how to choose the right Common App prompt for you. The Right Topic When youââ¬â¢re trying to choose something about your life to write about, consider the following: What are you excited to write about? A good college essay can be about a wide variety of topics, but it should show that youââ¬â¢re passionate about something. This could be anything from a hobby you have to your favorite book or even your most beloved stuffed animal, just so long as you can make it memorable and positive. Also, your writing will be a lot better if you are writing about something you care about and are interested in! Whatever you write about should be primarily about you. You should be the focal point. Even if youââ¬â¢re writing about someone who has influenced you, for example, you need to relate it back to yourself. What does this tell admission officers about you? What makes you stand out? This should be something that goes beyond whatââ¬â¢s in the rest of your application. Your test scores and GPA are already there. What really shows something unique about you? Choose a topic you can be honest about. If youââ¬â¢re not being genuine, it will end up coming through in your writing. So donââ¬â¢t write about how much your membership in Youth Group meant to you if you only went to make your mom happy and you actually didnââ¬â¢t care that much. In general, you should avoid topics that are overly controversial, like things that are politically charged, doing things that are illegal, or anything involving graphic descriptions of any bodily function. So if youââ¬â¢re going to write about recovering from hip surgery, probably leave out the gory details of you being constipated and your oozy scars. Check out our 35 brainstorming techniques for college essays for even more help coming up with a topic! If youââ¬â¢re really stumped, consider asking your friends and family what they think could be good topics. They may help you figure out something memorable and interesting. But also, donââ¬â¢t feel like you have to write about a topic just because someone else thinks it would be great. You need to be genuinely interested in what youââ¬â¢re writing about to write an engaging essay! Be as passionate about your topic as this man is about table tennis. #4: Decide on Your Approach In general, there are two main approaches you might take to write your essay. It might primarily take a narrative format, or it might take a thematic format. In a narrative format, youââ¬â¢ll be relating a particular anecdote or experience and what it means to you. In a thematic format, youââ¬â¢ll present a particular theme- say, your love of parakeets or your secret talent for balancing books on your head- and expound on that theme in a descriptive way to reveal more about you and your personality. Sometimes your approach will be determined by the prompt or topic that you choose. For example, if a prompt says to relate a particular event or anecdote, youââ¬â¢ll probably use a narrative approach. By contrast, if you want to write about how your favorite book changed your life, that will probably be a thematic essay. #5: Write an Outline Doing a little bit of outlining before you put fingertips to keyboard to write your essay is always a good idea. You donââ¬â¢t necessarily need to make a super-detailed plan before you starting writing, but a general idea of where you are going and the points you want to make will be very helpful when you start drafting. Otherwise, you may find yourself spending a lot of time staring at a blank Word document. Yes, good, very detailed essay plan. 4 Top College Essay Writing Tips Here are four tips for writing college essays and making sure your workstands out in a good way: #6: Use Specific Details The more details you use, the more your writing will come alive. Try to use words that are vivid and specific, instead of ones that are vague like ââ¬Å"nice,â⬠ââ¬Å"good,â⬠and so on. This will really flesh out the scene and help the reader picture whatââ¬â¢s going on. So take something like this: One of my biggest accomplishments in life was teaching my little brother to ride a bicycle. I encouraged him to keep going when he fell down. Now heââ¬â¢s a great cyclist! To something more like this: One of my biggest accomplishments in life was teaching my eight-year-old brother to ride the racy red bicycle he got for his birthday. He wanted to give up when he took a tumble and skidded across the sidewalk. But while I bandaged up his knees with Batman band-aids, I convinced him to give it another try. I told him to think about how he would be able to bike all around the neighborhood exploring. Now I smile whenever I see him zooming down our street- wearing his helmet, of course! See the difference? Wouldnââ¬â¢t you rather read the second one? Think how boring this angel statue would be if it was just kind of vaguely chiseled out of the rock. #7: Be Genuine Itââ¬â¢s important to get beyond the superficial in your personal statement. You should be writing about something thatââ¬â¢s genuinely important or significant to you, so try to get beyond the surface. Instead of writing vague platitudes about how you really like the violin but itââ¬â¢s hard, really get at the meat: did you ever think about quitting? Whatââ¬â¢s frustrated you the most? What really keeps you going? This means you shouldnââ¬â¢t try to write about things where itââ¬â¢s too painful to be honest. So if your parents got a divorce last year, it may be too raw to write about, which is perfectly fine. If, however, they got divorced when you were 5 and you can honestly reflect on how it changed your life, go for it. Of course, you want to be honest in a reasonable and appropriate way. If you overshare, it will make it seem like you have bad judgment or donââ¬â¢t understand social norms- not good impressions to give the admissions committee. So probably donââ¬â¢t write about how much you despise your mother and think she is evil since she had an affair with your school librarian. Itââ¬â¢s fine to feel how you feel, but there are some things that are a little too charged to write in your college essay. #8: Be Unique, but Not Bizarre You definitely want your writing to set you apart- but you want it to set you apart in a good way. This means you want high-quality writing about unique experiences and qualities you bring to the table that arenââ¬â¢t covered elsewhere in your application. This does not mean you should get really avant-garde with your essay formatting. Donââ¬â¢t send in a piece of art instead of an essay, or make a video, or write a poem instead of an essay, unless those things are explicitly allowed. Similarly, while your essay doesnââ¬â¢t have to be 100% deadly serious in tone, you should be careful with humor. This doesnââ¬â¢t mean absolutely no jokes or tongue-in-cheek moments or that your essay should read like an 18th-century book of sermons. But if your essay relies too much on humor, youââ¬â¢ve got a lot riding on whether or not the person reading your essay ââ¬Å"getsâ⬠it. They may well be annoyed. So deploy humor carefully and selectively. Sermons not necessary. #9: Avoid Cliches and Platitudes The more cliches you use in your writing, the more boring and less insightful your essay will be. Cliches are phrases that are so overused that they are essentially meaningless, and they are likely to make any reader roll their eyes. Phrases like ââ¬Å"a dime a dozen,â⬠ââ¬Å"outside the box,â⬠ââ¬Å"cold as ice,â⬠ââ¬Å"dirt cheap,â⬠ââ¬Å"flash in the pan,â⬠and so on are frequently deployed in conversation because they convey a common idea quickly. But you donââ¬â¢t want your essay to be common, so avoid cliches. Try to think about how you can communicate the same idea in a more specific and interesting way. Hereââ¬â¢s a list of over 600 cliches. But for the most part, you wonââ¬â¢t need a list; youââ¬â¢ll know something is a cliche because you will have heard it a million times already. You should also avoid platitudes or sweeping generalizations about life. These are statements that are so broad and far-reaching as to be both obvious and completely uninsightful. So avoid making statements like ââ¬Å"And thatââ¬â¢s how I learned that hard work pays off,â⬠or ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s no ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢ in team.â⬠You may think you sound sage or wise, but the truth is, platitudes are going to sound immature and poorly-formed to the reader. Similarly, donââ¬â¢t say things that sound like they could come from an inspirational quote account on Instagram. (See, ahem, ââ¬Å"You miss 100% of the shots you never take,â⬠ââ¬Å"Shoot for the moon,â⬠and so on.) How do you avoid the platitude problem? Try to keep what youââ¬â¢re saying specific to you. So instead of saying ââ¬Å"And thatââ¬â¢s how I learned that hard work pays off,â⬠try, ââ¬Å"This experience helped me to realize that when I put concentrated effort into something thatââ¬â¢s important to me, I can accomplish it even when there are roadblocks.â⬠Keep the focus on what you can and will do in your own life. Avoid saying anything like this at all costs. 2 Tips for Editing Your College Essay You may think that once youââ¬â¢ve gotten a draft done that youââ¬â¢re good to go. Not so! An empirical analysis of the components of retailer customer loyalty Essay
An empirical analysis of the components of retailer customer loyalty programs - Essay Example ks into one of the ways of capturing customer for loyalty and retention for the continuous competitive advantage of a business enterprise ââ¬â through a retailer customer loyalty program. The concept of customer loyalty program is simple and yet complicated because of the multiple activities related to it but the goal is always the same ââ¬â to encourage repeat business. Often, the business enterprises or the retailers, as they are the focus of this study offer a membership club to its customers. The members are then entitled to benefits, perks, privileges, discount schemes or whatever activities and benefits that the company has lined up exclusive to these member-customers. As the study by Fiorito, Gable and Tople stated: ââ¬Å"one means of achieving loyalty, from the activities engaged in by retailers (e.g. measuring customer satisfaction; handling complaints) to the benefits being offered (e.g. providing financial incentives to customers; sending customers thank you notes) that contribute to maintaining a long-lasting, permanent relationship with customersâ⬠(Fiorito, Gable and Tople, 2006, p 32). to determine the benefits offered to customers and activities taken by retailers whether or not they have formal customer loyalty programs, whether there are differences in the benefits/activities of retailers with and without formal loyalty programs whether specific benefits/activities of retailers can predict whether or not they have formal loyalty programs (Fiorito, Gable and Tople, 2006, p 32). It also wanted to know the evaluation of the existing customer loyalty programs by its perceived success through meeting the enterpriseââ¬â¢s expectations and increase in sales and if the program will be implemented continuously (2006, p 34). Thus, these are three specific areas explored by the study. Primarily, it was aimed to know the specific benefits and activities that were designed for the customers in line with the customer loyalty schemes even if the retailers do

Participating in team sports helps to develop good character in Essay
Participating in team sports helps to develop good character in chidren - Essay Example Though the results from these studies are somehow conflicted, there is a solid argument that sports are influential in developing good character in children. Is character intrinsic in human beings? To comprehend this, one must understand the definition of character. The term ââ¬Å"characterâ⬠is employed to refer to an encompassment of qualities that make an individual distinguishable. These qualities are usually complex, which psychological and ethical influences shape an individual character. These definitions make it evident that character is not intrinsic. This is because of its psychological and ethical inclinations. These two factors are external and are influenced by an individualââ¬â¢s interaction with life. Good character may be defined as conducting oneself in a manner that is socially accepted. Therefore, for a child to have good character, it is imperative that they interact with the society in order to know what is accepted to be good and vice versa. Therefore, interactions such as sports may have a significant influence on character development in children that are positively viewed in the community. Children participation in team sports clearly has a consequence in the development of character in children. This is because sports make available an opportunity for children to learn qualities that entail good character. Some of these qualities include commitment, discipline, and teamwork among other qualities that are regarded as good character. Children, through sports, also understand better human relationships and how best to relate in society. The characters that are learned through sports influence the childââ¬â¢s life decisions in his or her lifetime (Dunlap, 2004). Character development in children is evident in sports through the development of principles. Principles depicted to be of good character include honesty, compassion, integrity, self-control, courage, hard work, etc.. These principles are learned in sports
